ABOUT
Sir Dr. Zirak Marker is a renowned child, adolescent, and family psychiatrist with over 23 years of clinical practice in Mumbai, and the author of two books on mental health. His journey into painting deepened during the pandemic, when the emotional toll of listening to patients’ trauma pushed him toward introspection. The act of slowing down, staying present, letting go of old wounds, recognising impermanence, became central to both his healing and his art.
Self-taught over many years, Marker has developed a distinct visual language using palette knives, texture, and atmospheric colour. His paintings often feature boats and sails drifting through storms or resting in still waters, symbols of uncertainty, resilience, and the fragile balance between chaos and calm. These opposing states mirror the complex emotional terrains he navigates daily with the families he works with.
Through this process, he recognised his deeper purpose: touching people’s lives. Painting became another way to offer that care—sharing pain and solace, strength and stillness, presence and acceptance.
Marker has held several successful exhibitions, including the sold-out solo shows Falling Waters (2023) and Freedom (2024) at Kathiwada House. His collection Adrift was exhibited at the “World of Crete” (2023) and World Art Dubai (2024). In 2024, the Ministry of New hosted his solo exhibition featuring Petrichor and Air & Salt. Most recently, he participated in Interregnum One (2025) at Nine Fish Art Gallery and Dot Line Space.
